Climbing guide/topo

Around Stryn you can choose among approximately 140 sport climbing routes, several climbs in the mountains and a couple of boulder areas. You will find routes at both beginner and advanced level, which makes Stryn a perfect place for some days of climbing for both advanced climbers and families.

SPORT CLIMBING

Beachen [63 routes from 5- to 8a+]


One of the best crags in Norway. Here you will find both steep routes from 7a to 8a and slab/vertical routes from 5a to 7a. Almost all of the 60 routes are dry even though it is raining! On sunny days the conditions are best before lunch and late at night due to the sun's heating of the wall. Beachen has been among the top 5 of the Norwegian crags in the climbing community page 8a.nu (over 86 000 members) for many years.

Kleiva [17 routes from 4+ to 7b+]


You will find Kleiva nicely located in the forest just above the centre of Stryn. Developed in the mid 1990´s, Kleiva was one of the the first crags in the inner part of Nordfjord. Here you can climb some nice ten to twenty meters vertical routes from 4+ to 7b+. In 2019 local climbers started to bolt several new routes at this crag.

Erdalen [30 routes from 3+ to 7c+]



Established in 2015, Erdalen is one of the newest crags in Stryn. This crag is vertical to slightly overhangig and has several nice routes on lower grades. Including one of the country's finest 3+ routes. Some of the routes in Erdalen is up to 55 meters long! Thus, it is important to bring a long rope!

Folven [24 routes from 4 to 7a]


The Folven crag offers slab and vertical climbing on compact rock. It has a great view with Folven Camping in the background. This crag is mostly used as a course crag, as the routes are short and  short distance between bolts. Most routes are easily graded (but somewhat sandbagged). If you have via-ferrata slings, there is also a short via-ferrata route in the canyon.

Karakush [10 routes from 7b+ to 8a]

Here you will find slightly overhanging and steep routes from 7b+ to 8a. Almost all the routes are dry even though it is raining! This can be a good alternative on sunny days, as the wall is north facing. Some of the routes are still projects...

Mimreveggen [3 routes from 7b to 7b+]

Mimreveggen i Stryn, Innvik


Mimreveggen is the white wall at Hildaneset, about 2.5 km from the center of Innvik. There are only 3 routes at 7b and 7b+, but the climbing field is absolutely worth a visit for these routes. During the breaks you can also enjoy the magical view over Nordfjord.

BOULDERING

Melkevoll / Briksdalen [about 80 problems from 3+ to 8A]

The Melkevoll boulders contains about 80 boulder problems. It is said to be one of the most scenic boulder area in Norway, with a view to two glaciers, a wonderful waterfall and a mighty western nature. The boulders are easily accessible with proper landings.

Grasdalen


Up-and-coming area! Only a few boulders has been done yet in this beautiful surroundings! A lot of potential, easily accessible and with proper landings.

Up-and-coming area in nearly walking distance from Stryn centre! A lot of potential and easily accessible at Årheim!

Mt.Karifjellet

Karifjellet is a mountain trad crag located at 1100 m.a.s.l. established by Frank-Jakob Sandbakk, Robin Gullikson and Endre Vonheim

It is also climbing routes at these mountains, but no topo yet...

INDOOR CLIMBING


Indoor bouldering at GYM Stryn



If you need to do some strenght or power training, or the weather is too bad, you will find a modern bouldering wall of about 165sqm + Kilderboard at GYM Stryn training centre! This bouldering gym is new, and opened in January 2021! The boulder wall is built by Tjelmeland Friksjon, Norway's best producer of climbing walls!

Strynehallen

In Strynehallen you can find a 13m wall and a small bouldering area. Unfortunately the climbing is in the same hall as other sports like handball and football, and it is hard to find a time to use it... See Stryn Klatreklubb for more information.
